528 Inventions and Innovations vying for the top spot in Malaysia

The 18th Malaysia Technology Expo (MTE) 2019 has 528 international inventions and innovations from around the world vying for the top spot from 21 to 23 February at Putra World Trade Centre. There are 18 countries participating in the awards this year, and more than 10,000 visitors are expected with the introduction of inaugural concurrent events, collaborations, programs, and activities. The judging will be held onsite; visitors can expect to experience hands-on, interactive exhibits.

MTE 2019 introduces the Inaugural Public Service Innovation Award that recognizes the innovative work that occurs within the public service across Malaysia with 34 entries in its first year, this Award seeks to encourage innovation that is direly needed in the industry. Ambassador H.E Kreso Glavac from the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia in Malaysia will present MCTX special Awards of Merit to all Public Service Innovation participants and selected MTE Awards winners.

We are honoured to have the Minister of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment & Climate Change, Yang Berhormat Puan Yeo Bee Yin for our opening ceremony. We are privileged that the following ministers will visit MTE 2019 for the awards presentation. YBhg Dr. Ismail bin Hj. Bakar, Chief Secretary to the Government of Malaysia, will be presenting the Public Service Innovation Awards to our winners on 22 February. Yang Berhormat Dr. Maszlee bin Malik, Minister of Education will be presenting the Invention and Innovation Awards and STEM Mentor-Mentee Awards & STEM Teaching Innovation Awards to our winners on 23 February.

In a bold move this year, MTE launches Innovation Marketplace (IMP), a complementary extension of MTE. This move is to accommodate the feedback gathered from private organizations who have shared their interest in participating in a lateral space, leveraging on the thousands of trade visitors to the event. Moving away from the intense competition in Hall 3 dominated by inventors & innovators, IMP situated in Hall 4 focuses on proven cutting-edge and commercialized technologies. We have organizations from sustainable and disruptive technologies participating: NanoMalaysia Bhd, Touch ‘n Go Sdn Bhd, Aerodyne Group, Techsource Systems Sdn Bhd, and many others.

2019, marks an important milestone, MCTX, the technology exchange between Malaysian & Croatian inventors for the past 10 years at MTE. To celebrate this momentous occasion, there will be an announcement on the formation of the Malaysia-Croatia Business Council. During the event, Business matching, a Business networking reception, and a tribute to Nikolai Tesla are some of the activities organized.

To further encourage the innovative spirit of our next generation, we have created College Break. It is a break away from the intense competition taking place in Hall 3. There is an Innovation Townhall where innovative talks are held in collaboration with PETRO SAINS, Interactive Mobile Trucks, and Greentech to bring in showcases and interactive activities.

This annual event is co-organized by the Malaysian Association of Research Scientists (MARS) and PROTEMP Exhibitions and Conferences Sdn Bhd. and supported by the Ministry of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment & Climate Change, Ministry of Education Malaysia, International Federation of Inventors’ Associations and The Institution for Science Advancement.

Managing Director of PROTEMP Exhibitions and Conferences Sdn Bhd, Ronald Chiew says, “This year, is not just about innovation awards, although the number of entries remains robust. We have scaled the event to cater to private organizations that have commercialized their innovations successfully. With the positive response from these organizations, it is a strong testimony to the event’s effectiveness in promoting technological innovation and creativity in its various industries. ”
