Pioneering Innovation for a Sustainable Future: MTE 2024 Sustainable Development Goals International Innovation Awards & Expo
The Malaysia Technology Expo (MTE) is excited to announce the upcoming MTE 2024 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) International Innovation Awards & Expo, a prestigious virtual event scheduled from 16-18 October 2024. This global event will showcase groundbreaking innovations aimed at advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), bringing together industry leaders, researchers, policymakers, and innovators from around the world. The event is proudly supported by the Ministry of Higher Education, Ministry of Science, Technology, and Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture.
The MTE 2024 SDG International Innovation Awards will be chaired by Professor Datuk Dr. Shahrin bin Sahib @ Sahibuddin, Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), with Prof. Dato’ Seri Ir. Dr. Abdul Rahman Mohamed, FASc., Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Sains Malaysia, serving as the Academic Deputy Chair and Kamarulzaman Kamaruddin, Senior Consultant at SIRIM TECH VENTURE Sdn. Bhd., as Industry Deputy Chair. The Chief Juror, Prof. Dr. Wong Tin Wui, from the Non-Destructive Biomed Pharma Research Centre (NDBPRC), will lead the panel of jurors tasked with evaluating the innovative entries. In addition to the main awards, special awards will be conferred by 11 renowned international inventors’ associations and organisations, further elevating the prestige of this global event.
In 2023, MTE’s SDG event attracted over 3,316 visitors from 12 countries, with 165 innovations competing in various categories aligned with the 17 SDGs. This year’s expo aims to build on that success, offering participants a platform to showcase their solutions and engage in meaningful dialogue about the future of sustainability. Visitor registration is free, and the event will be held on a virtual platform, making it accessible to participants from all corners of the world.
In addition to showcasing cutting-edge innovations and recognizing excellence in SDG-driven solutions, participants can look forward to a vibrant lineup of knowledge-sharing sessions, interactive virtual booths, and networking opportunities throughout the event. The 3-day programme will cover a wide array of sectors, including clean energy, water conservation, healthcare, and sustainable agriculture.
Day 1 will focus on sustainable urban development and healthcare innovations, featuring sessions on smart city initiatives by the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council and virtual reality’s role in maternal healthcare. Additionally, topics like sustainable agriculture and outdoor workspace innovations will take center stage, addressing how technology can improve quality of life in urban and rural environments.
On Day 2, the focus will shift to health innovations, financial literacy, and social responsibility, with sessions like chemoprevention in colorectal cancer and technology transfer strategies for socioeconomic growth. Speakers will also discuss the integration of sustainability in higher education, emphasizing financial literacy as a pathway to reducing inequalities and improving education quality.
Day 3 will highlight climate action and environmental sustainability, with expert discussions on carbon emissions management in Southeast Asia and sustainable technology solutions for food security and climate resilience. The program also includes a session on empowering indigenous communities through grassroots innovation projects aimed at improving livelihoods.
