MTE 2024 Sustainable Development Goals International Innovation Awards & Expo Concludes with 110 Entries and Global Participation

The Malaysia Technology Expo (MTE) 2024 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) International Innovation Awards & Expo concluded successfully on 18 October 2024, marking another milestone in pioneering innovations for sustainable development. The three-day virtual event, supported by the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation (MOSTI), Ministry of Higher Education, and Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, was attended by 1,727 visitors from 17 countries and showcased 110 groundbreaking entries from Malaysia, Hong Kong, Oman, Algeria and Taiwan.

The highlight of the event was the Results Announcement Ceremony, graced by YB Chang Lih Kang, Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation (MOSTI). The MTE SDG Innovation Awards recognized outstanding innovations that contribute to the advancement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), emphasizing innovation, sustainability, and global collaboration. This year’s winners included:

  • 41 Gold Awards
  • 43 Silver Awards
  • 13 Bronze Awards
  • 10 Outstanding Innovation Awards
  • 16 Special Awards

The entries were judged by an esteemed panel, including Chief Juror Prof. Dr. Wong Tin Wui, Director of the Non-Destructive Biomed Pharma Research Centre (NDBPRC). The awards were chaired by Professor Datuk Dr. Shahrin bin Sahib @ Sahibuddin, Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), with Prof. Dato’ Seri Ir. Dr. Abdul Rahman Mohamed, Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Sains Malaysia, and Kamarulzaman Kamaruddin, Senior Consultant at SIRIM Tech Venture Sdn. Bhd., serving as Academic and Industry Deputy Chairs, respectively.

The event provided a platform for meaningful dialogue and networking among global innovators, policymakers, and industry leaders. It featured a diverse lineup of knowledge-sharing sessions, interactive virtual booths, and presentations on topics such as clean energy, water conservation, healthcare, and sustainable agriculture.

 

Day 1 focused on sustainable urban development and healthcare innovations, with highlights including sessions on smart city initiatives by the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council and virtual reality’s role in maternal healthcare.

Day 2 featured discussions on financial literacy and social responsibility, with talks on chemoprevention in colorectal cancer and technology transfer strategies for socioeconomic growth.

Day 3 closed with a focus on climate action and environmental sustainability, where experts discussed carbon emissions management in Southeast Asia, sustainable technology solutions for food security, and grassroots innovation projects for empowering indigenous communities.

MTE’s flagship initiative, Sharity Malaysia – Building Bridges to Sustainability, also featured prominently during the event, aligning with the SDG goals by promoting sustainability and community-driven solutions. Collaborating with partners such as World Vision Malaysia, SPCA Selangor, and Hopes Malaysia, Sharity Malaysia highlighted the importance of cross-sector partnerships in driving global sustainability efforts.
